How to Make an Extra $50 a Day

Last week I listed an old mirror that I had and earned an extra $50 within less than an hour of my time. This mirror was given to me and wasn’t being used anymore. I couldn’t believe that I was just sitting on such an easy way to make some extra cash. This got me thinking, what other extra things can I be doing to earn $50 a day?
If you can change your mindset into looking for additional ways that you can earn extra money, it can add up. Earning an extra $50 a day would total over $18,000 a year!
So let us go over the simple ways that can get you an extra $50 a day.
1. Flip items on eBay, OfferUp, Facebook Marketplace
I can’t talk about earning some extra money without including flipping items. Lately, most of the items that we buy used are usually then fixed up and kept, but in the past, I have flipped a variety of things including gaming consoles, furniture, clothing, decorations, and power tools.
The best places to collect items to flip are:
- Thrift Stores
- Garage/Yard Sales
- Estate Sales
- Liquidation Sites
- eBay/OfferUp/Facebook Marketplace
- Friends/Family/Neighbors
Look for items that hold their value, sell well on these websites, and take little to no effort to fix up. Here’s a list of categories that tend to do well.
- Sports equipment
- Furniture
- Power tools
- Name-brand clothing
- Books
- Electronics
- Baby gear
- Collectible jewelry
2. Freelance Write
Writing content is an excellent way to earn an extra $50 a day and I can promise you that it is easier than you think. Sign up for Freelancer.com to find some projects. There are a few different types of writing projects that you can do, but if you are wanting to write articles the average earnings are $30 per project.
Tip: Use Grammarly when writing your articles to help you with your grammar and overall shorten editing time.
3. Sell Clothing
A simple way to earn an extra $50 is to take stuff that you already own and sell them. And I can almost guarantee that you have a least a few items of clothing in your closet right now that you no longer wear and would benefit from selling.
Did you know that the average person only uses 20% of the clothes in their closet regularly? Go through your closet and list some of the 80% that you aren’t wearing anymore. A good rule of thumb is to think of the last time that you wore that item. If it has been over 6 months since you last wore it and you won’t wear it in the next 6 months - get rid of it!

4. Sell an eBook
Share what you know, while also earning some cash on the side. Chances are that you have some hobby or passion that you love to research and talk about. For Zach and I, it’s making and saving money. For you, it might be cooking, video gaming, hockey, painting, you name it! An enjoyable way that you can earn an extra $50 a day is to take this knowledge and make an ebook or course with it.
These ebooks do not need to be long at all. I’ve seen many that are around the 50-page marker including pictures and tables. Most ebooks are priced $3-$4 and a portion of this goes to the distributor. If you list your ebook between $3 and $10 you will receive about 70% of each ebook sell. The most common distributors to use are Amazon.com, BN.com, and Apple iBookstore.
5. Drive for Uber or Lyft
If you have a few hours in the evening free and own a car, driving for Uber or Lyft could be the perfect way for you to earn an extra $50 a day. These gigs tend to pay around $19 an hour. With Uber and Lyft you decide when and how much you want to work and you don’t have to wear a uniform while doing it!
6. Become a Mystery Shopper
This can be a hit or miss with finding jobs but it is personally my favorite way to earn some extra money. It doesn’t even feel like working! Get paid to shop at certain retailers and then report how your experience was.
We signed up for Market Force and have been getting free food and pay for simply eating out. For us, the companies and locations have been specified, but you can order whatever you want within a price range. They reimburse your meal and pay you for your time. All you need to do is snap a picture of your food and receipt, and then fill out a questionnaire about your experience.
